HOMETOWN: Cary, IL (Norge Ski Clbu)
BIRTHDATE: March 27, 1989
LONGEST JUMP: 209 Meters, Oberstdorf, GER, February 2017
A Championship quality ski jumper and member of the National “B” squad, Mike has enjoyed a strong Summer, including placing 4th in the Large Hill US Nationals in Park City and spending time jumping in Europe. Glasder recently said…”It’s been awhile since I’ve had the chance to go against the best, that’s all part of becoming a better jumper. I’ve been putting in a lot of hard work this year and it’s starting to show.”
Mike began jumping at age 5, with coach Scott Smith of Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove, IL. His favorite hill is the K185 Planica, Slovenia.
He is known as ‘Prison Mike’ after a character in the TV show “The Office,” Mike is a Cubs and Blackhawks fan, and says, “I enjoy outside activities such as golfing, biking, boating, and fishing. I am getting really into bass fishing and it is one of the most exciting and relaxing things that I do in my off time. When I am not traveling, I live with my mom and dad as well as my older brother Chris and younger brother Dennis. I wouldn’t have been able to make it this far without their support.”
Mike says, “The season wasn’t quite what I had hoped for. It was pretty difficult to get any decent training. I always expect a very high level for myself and I feel like I didn’t perform up to my potential. It was, however, a definite improvement over the previous season when it came to technical issues and I feel like it is ‘just there’ and the jumps are where I would like them to be.”
Mike placed a solid fourth at the US National (NH) Championships in October 2014 at Lake Placid, NY. In December of 2014 Mike skied to a fine 8th place at a FIS Cup in Notodden, NOR. His 23rd at a COC in late December 2014 shows he’s getting ready for big things.
In 2015 Mike was selected as a member of the USA World Championships Team to Falun, SWE, and rounded out the 2015 season with ski flying in Planica, SLO.
